This 67 ft. fin whale washed up on San Diego shores this week after reportedly being struck by a ship. The whale will be towed 20 miles out to sea Friday morning and sunken. Cameras will be attached to the carcass to enable researchers to observe the fish feed on it and monitor the degrading process. The female whale was pregnant at the time, and crowds gathered on Fiesta Island watched researchers examine the remains. Rare fin whales can reach up to 70 tons, and are an endangered species.
